Wednesday, Jan.30 ~ 1 Samuel 16-17

Journal 12: 1 Samuel 16-17
As you read, answer the questions below:

From Ch.16...

  1. Why do think God allows Saul to remain on the throne after Saul's mistake with the Amalekites?
  2. In verse 16:11, what tone do you perceive in the fact that Samuel won't sit down until David arrives?
  3. How old would you guess David is at this point? How would you guess his brothers took this news considering the culture around the hierarchy of birth order?
  4. In the second half of Chapter 16, does Saul know about Samuel's anointing of David?
  5. It seems unusual that God would send a tormenting spirit to Saul (vs.14 & 23). Why do you think God would do this to Saul? Is there a strategy here?
From Ch.17...
As you read this chapter, highlight the words (or paraphrases of the words) spoken by both Goliath and David.

      6. What is Goliath's confidence held in? David's?
      7. Why doesn't David wear Saul's armor?
      8. What kind of street credit do you believe Saul has with his soldiers at this point in his career? Explain.
      9. If David didn't wear Saul's armor, why do you think he would take Goliath's armor?
     10. It seems like Saul doesn't recognize David in the end. How can this be possible?

After reading...find one key verse for each chapter and record them here.
