- Write down three quotes or take-away concepts from this speech.
EQ: What research question or task will you take on for the Body Project 2.0?
First, if you could place yourself in the seat of a researcher (rather than just simply a girl looking to avoid being tricked by the media), what questions would you ask? Here are some of mine...
- How many women or teens are actually unhappy with their bodies? (Any guesses at the percentage of our girls at school? I wonder if we polled the female teachers?)
- Do guys have comparable pressures around physical looks? How do they compare?
- Is this mentality different in other cultures?
- Is there a specific image for this generation like there have been for others?
- Does the ideal body image vary based on age, race, or some sub-culture around a sport or other aspect?
- How does one's concept of his/her own body image develop?
- How much are eating disorders related to perceived body image?
- What factors contribute to the accuracy of our perceptions? How does a condition like Body Dysmorphia develop?
- What other results can be linked to one's satisfaction with his/her own body?
- Is there brain chemistry related to my perceptions specifically about body image?
- Is it bad if I want to work on my body? Where is the boundary of a pure motive?
- Is the thought that I am made in God's image enough for me? What if I don't believe it? If I do believe it, how do I make this message feel less cheesy? What logic can I bolster this with?
- If I am a believer, what is God's message for women here and how can I help to educate/empower women to believe the truth about themselves?
- What final assessment will I actually rest on when it comes to my own body? What Ebeneezer will I build to remind myself of this on the bad days?
What questions would you add? What question would you like to answer?
