Wednesday, Jan.23 ~ 1 Samuel 13-14

Let's start by rereading 1 Samuel 12: 19-25

  • What would you say is God's philosophy on taking risks?
Let's read Chapter 13 and discuss along the way...
  • v.1 Why did he wait a year to become king?
  • Why are the Israelites always fighting the Philistines?
  • v.13 What is the code of conduct that Saul has violated? Why is it a big deal? See Deut.20.
  • v.14 What is God's main complaint about Saul?
  • v.19-23 Why are the Israelites having their enemies sharpen their tools? Why are they fighting with farming tools?
Chapter 14
  • v.1 Why is Saul hiding? Have we seen him hiding before?
  • v.6-23 What exactly happened here? Why do you think Jonathan did this? Highlight the key quote that reveals just how differently Jonathan thinks compared to his dad.
  • v.24 What is Saul's motive in giving such a command? (Why is he mad?)
  • v.43-46 Contrast Saul's perspective vs. God's perspective on this situation.
  • v.52 What does this show about where Saul's confidence lies?

Journal 6
